Root Management

We are experienced at assessing the role of trees in both direct damage through physical root growth and indirect damage through varying soil types. The role of trees and direct damage is generally obvious but when trees are significant, more imaginative management than simple tree removal is often achievable. Careful root management on your Sydney property can allow you to keep your grand, well-established trees whilst minimising hazards.

Large trees close to buildings and built structures can cause severe damage and inconvenience. Naturally Trees promote regular inspections and reporting as an effective way of reducing exposure to the associated risks. We can provide practical strategies and root management options.

Root Identification

Naturally Trees provide root identification through DNA testing or microscopy.

Ground Penetrating Radar

The preservation of mature trees is of an ever growing importance. More and more frequently councils require detailed reporting on the impacts proposed by urban development. Knowledge on the location and size of a tree’s structural root system is critical in determining whether development will have a long term effect on a tree’s condition. Naturally Trees provides non-destructive tree root mapping which greatly assists in ensuring the best root management practice for trees.

Using the ground penetrating radar (GPR) unit we can examine and map woody roots with zero impact to trees. This service is commonly used by project developers, home owners, councils and architects to locate tree roots prior to carrying out works within a tree’s protection zone.

The radar can detect major and minor woody root structures to a depth of up to 1.2 metres and provides advanced in-the-field 3D imaging. GPR images for 400 (top) and 900 (bottom) MHz antennae taken along the same profile line. Identified tree roots have been highlighted.  An area of disturbed subsurface material is evident in the middle of the profile and may represent a large mass of tree roots.
